Women with better jobs, earn higher incomes contributing to the national economy.  They also marry later, have fewer children and provide better health care and education for their children when they become mothers. It is easy to see why Kofi Annan said, “To educate girls is to reduce poverty.” 

Girls’ lack of access to education may be rooted in social, cultural and religious bias, but economics especially in rural India is a big reason why girls are denied education. When families struggle with costs such as tuition fees, cost of textbooks, uniforms, transportation and other expenses and have to make a choice as to which child to educate. Daughters usually lose out to their sons or are sent to poorly-staffed government schools. Together, we can change this outcome.
